Linked Data for Linguistic Diversity Research: Glottolog/Langdoc and ASJP Online
نویسنده
چکیده
Most of the linguistic resources available to day are about the world’s major languages. This paper discusses two projects which have world-wide coverage as their aim. Glottolog/Langdoc is an attempt to attain near-complete bibliographical coverage for the world’s lesser-known languages (i.e. 95% of the world’s linguistic diversity), which then provides solid empirical ground for extensional definitions of languages and language classification. Automated Similarity Judgment Program (ASJP) online provides standardized lexical distance data for 5800 languages from Brown et al (2008) as Linked Data. These two projects are the first attempt at a Typological Linked Data Cloud, to which PHOIBLE by Moran (this vol.) can easily be added in the future.

Linking Linguistic Resources: Examples from the Open Linguistics Working Group
The contributions of this part have described recent activities of the OWLG as a whole and of individual OWLG members aiming to provide linguistic resources as Linked Data. Here, we describe how linguistic resources can be linked with each other, and we illustrate possible use cases of information integration from various sources with example queries for the major types of linguistic resources:...

متن کاملGlottolog/Langdoc: Increasing the visibility of grey literature for low-density languages
Language resources can be divided into structural resources treating phonology, morphosyntax, semantics etc. and resources treating the social, demographic, ethnic, political context. A third type are meta-resources, like bibliographies, which provide access to the resources of the first two kinds. This poster will present the Glottolog/Langdoc project, a comprehensive bibliography providing we...
متن کاملGlottolog/Langdoc: Defining Dialects, Languages, and Language Families as Collections of Resources
This paper describes the Glottolog/Langdoc project, an attempt to provide near-total bibliographical coverage of descriptive resources to the world’s languages. Every reference is treated as a resource, as is every “languoid”[1]. References are linked to the languoids which they describe, and languoids are linked to the references described by them. Family relations between languoids are modele...
متن کاملBEASTling: A software tool for linguistic phylogenetics using BEAST 2
We present a new open source software tool called BEASTling, designed to simplify the preparation of Bayesian phylogenetic analyses of linguistic data using the BEAST 2 platform. BEASTling transforms comparatively short and human-readable configuration files into the XML files used by BEAST to specify analyses. By taking advantage of Creative Commons-licensed data from the Glottolog language ca...
